2013 Paddling Day 13 - Beaver Creek

Paddle with the Ottawa Crew again.

The weather was great.


Did five laps on the Bridge Drop

Swam somewhere in the right side of Fidlars

2013 Paddling Day 12 - Middle Gauley, WV

Had a great day on the Middle Gauley with the Beyers, Adam, Kevin, and Julia

It was a personal first on this section of the river.


Had a swim when I tried to catch this small eddy that was in behind a huge boulder above a crazy hole.

Almost made it but ended up sliding off the rock backwards into the hole.

After seeing how shitty the Lower Gauley Putin in road has become ... I will not drive my vehicle down there.

In Lost Creek for the night ... Leisurely drive back home tomorrow

Not sure what the level was.

2013 Paddling Day 11 - Cheat River Canyon, WV

I decide to do a quick road trip to the USA.

Paddled the Cheat River Canyon with Al, Tommy, and and I forget the other guy as he was a kayaker.

It was a great hot sunny day ... which I had brought my paddling shorts ... ended up sweating in the drysuit.

I swam at Recyclatron as I tried to punch the hole instead of taking the normal line.

I will have to re-think going into Phils Hole on the Ottawa now.

As normal the takeout road still sucks and it is now worse then last year.

Luckily the new wheels made it down and up ok.

Had a kayak slide off the roof ... need to remember cockpits face out when putting them on the roof.

Spent the night with the Beyers in Fayetteville, WV

The level was 2.0 feet

Camera is fixed

Got my baby back today ... time to go have some fun

2013 Paddling Day 10 - Beaver Creek

Paddle with the Ottawa Crew again.

The water was definitely freezing cold as the ice started to break up a few days before.

Swam at the second drop of double drop.

Definitely interesting paddling with one foot thick ice shelfs and big chunks of icebergs floating in the river.

2013 Paddling Day 9 - Skootama River

Today was another personal first running the Skootama River near Flinton, Ontario.

We had twenty open boats and a couple kayaks on the river.

Nobody in the group had ever been on the river so we had to boat and land scout as we went.

Pretty much everyone walked around the first big feature due to the massive ice chunk was hanging above what looked like the normal line to take.

The two people that decided to run it and got  stuck in the big ass hole had to be roped out.

The 1.2km canyon run is amazing ... too bad I had to miss taking my time in order to chase a boat and run a big drop on a blind corner.

I will definitely be going back for that run next spring.

Camera is busted

Sad day for me ... turns out my camera is out of commission for at least a month. It is now in for repair as the memory card will no longer stay in it.

Looks like I will have time to get some stuff done around the house

Heading home after eight days of paddling in the South East

I made the long ass 1300km or 825 mile drive home all in one shot. 

Made it in my best time of 15 hours and 14 minutes.

2013 Paddling Day 8 - Middle Ocoee

Felt like total crap today. But it was Ocoee River season open so I headed off to the river. 

After running the first set of rapids I decided to head on down ahead of the others. 

I almost threw up three different times and managed to have a solid twenty minute power snooze after Diamond Splitter.   

I ended up having a couple hour snooze once I got back friends place. 

Went to Walmart later in the evening in my PJ's and fit in with the other shoppers :)

2013 Paddling Day 7 - Little River

Paddled with Margaret on the Little River  from below the Elbow to the Y and then part of the Sinks section. 

I put my roof top carrier back on the car when I got back to friends place and re-packed the car with everything I did not need as I was heading home in a couple days.

2013 Paddling day 6 - Tellico River

Spent the day at the Tellico River with Maheegun and the boys shooting photos of them and all the others that showed up. 

Managed to get in a quick run from the Bridge down to Turkey Creek.

Dinner for ten

Took today as an off day and cooked a ham dinner with all the fixings for ten people. 

Did my shopping at the new Costco in Knoxville, TN (another one off the list)

It was a great evening with friends.
